The Association of Pickleball Players (APP) made a triumphant return to the desert with exhilarating gold medal matches on Championship Sunday at the 2025 APP Mesa Open.

The tournament showcased the top pickleball pros in the sport, the AARP Champions and AARP Masters Pro Divisions, the latest round of the season-long Humana Cup competition for pros 50 and over, and showcased a large field of amateur players of all ages and skill levels from across the country. All amateur medalists earned an APP Passport guaranteeing registration for the season-ending 2025 APP Tour Championships in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, December 9-14.

Ronan Camron shined bright in the APP Tour pro ranks, winning the men’s singles title for his first career APP Tour gold medal. Megan Fudge, the APP Tour’s all-time career medals leader, added two more golds to her storied career with another women’s doubles title alongside Jill Braverman, and the mixed doubles title with Jack Munro. Erik Lange and Max “Purple Jesus” Manthou claimed their first men’s doubles gold medals of the season, and Sofia Sewing continued her women’s singles dominance with another gold.

Women’s Pro Singles

The top two seeds faced off in an epic women’s pro singles final on Championship Court. Sofia Sewing, the three-time defending champion, took on Katerina Stewart, who has two titles of her own. Sewing wasted no time seizing the momentum, taking game one 15-7. Stewart made a run in game two, but Sewing ultimately pulled away with a 15-12 victory to secure her fourth consecutive gold medal and eighth of the 2025 APP Tour season.

“This was one of the cleanest performances I’ve had so far. I’m really happy with how I played. It’s always a battle – I was feeling it a lot in the second game, but I came in very confident and wanted to be aggressive, and I’m really happy with my performance.”

Trang Huynh-McClain earned women’s singles bronze for her first career APP Tour medal.

Men's Pro Singles

The men’s pro singles final featured number three seed Will Howells against 2025 APP U.S. National Team member Ronan Camron. Camron and Howells traded blows throughout the opening frame, but Camron emerged victorious, 15-9. Howells responded with resilience, but Camron pulled out the win, 15-13, to clinch his first career APP Tour gold medal.

“The night before, I thought ‘third time’s the charm’. I had two silvers in singles and I wanted gold. I wanted the big trophy.”

Ammar Wazir took home the men’s singles bronze medal.

Women's Pro Doubles

Jill Braverman and Megan Fudge, winners of five APP Tour women’s doubles titles in 2025, took the court in search of title number six against Amanda Hendry and Sofia Sewing. Continuing their dominance, Braverman and Fudge cruised in game one, 11-3. Hendry and Sewing would not go quietly in game two, as the teams were neck-and-neck leading to a tie at 10 points apiece. The final two points went in favor of Braverman and Fudge as they won 12-10 for their sixth women’s doubles title as a duo this season.

“Megan and I bring that extra level of focus when it really matters, and we did that today,” Braverman commented.

“We wanted to give them a little bit of a change-up,” Fudge added. “They were serving big, and we could play both sides, so we wanted to show off our strengths.”

Susannah Barr and Daria Walczak won the women’s doubles bronze medals in Mesa.

Men's Pro Doubles

The Pacific Northwest duo of Erik Lange and Max Manthou won three men’s doubles titles together in 2024, but were still seeking their first of 2025 as they battled Robert Slutsky and Zack Taylor for gold. Lange and Manthou came out firing and never looked back, winning 11-5 and 11-2 to clinch their first APP Tour gold medals as a duo in 2025.

“Erik came out with a perfect game plan, and we just executed that,” said Manthou. “We knew if we brought enough energy from the beginning we would come away [with gold].”

“The game play was to drive the ball, play big, occasionally slow it down, and do our thing,” said Lange.

Clayton Powell and Aidan Schenk earned the men’s doubles bronze medals.

Mixed Pro Doubles

The final match of the day was a familiar one, as number one seeds Megan Fudge and Jack Munro took on two-seeds Bobbi Oshiro and Will Howells in the mixed pro doubles final. Fudge and Munro struck first, winning 11-9 in a nail-biting game one. Game two went back and forth, but Fudge and Munro dug deep to get the win, 11-7, for their fifth mixed doubles title as a duo in 2025.

“I’m proud of this one,” Fudge said in reference to Munro. “We fought through a lot here with different aspects, physical and mental, and I’m just proud of Jack for showing up today and being an amazing teammate.”

“As soon as Megan said ‘be free’, that’s the green light to do whatever I want,” Munro added. “When I get the green light, I get back in my element, I feel a bit more confident, and it showed in the match.”

Jill Braverman and Randy Blanco won the mixed doubles bronze medals.

AARP Champions Pro Action
In AARP Champions Division (50+) competition in Mesa, Jennifer Dawson earned a triple crown with three gold medals: women’s doubles with Lee Whitwell, mixed doubles with Youssef Bouzidi and women’s singles. Youssef Bouzidi added another men’s singles gold, while Dayne Gingrich and Tommy Ho won the men’s doubles title.

AARP Masters Pro Action
In AARP Masters Division (60+) action, Lupita Curiel won the women’s singles title while David Spearman took home men’s singles gold. Beth Bellamy and Scott Moore earned mixed doubles gold, Heather Iffert and Anna Shirley teamed up for women’s doubles gold, and Kevin Booth and Todd Murphy secured the men’s doubles title.
