APP pro Kat Stewart shares her adventures from Sacramento
First doubles medal on tour! This one is extra special to me not only because it’s with Bobbi whom I love, but because I’ve put in countless hours day-in and day-out to improve my doubles game to not stay known as “the singles player.” Getting a triple crown is definitely on my list of goals I want to achieve so that means I need to be as versatile of a player as possible. This medal is one step in the direction I want to be going in that’s for sure. Celebrating with a bit of In-N-Out and another escape room tonight. Thanks so much for following along and being a part of this journey with me this week. See you all in Cincinnati!

Good morning Sac! Gave myself some time and space to bounce back after a tough loss yesterday. It’s always easy to talk about the wins but the losses not so much. Although, they are just as important. It’s how we learn, grow, adjust and come back stronger. Really proud of how I played despite not getting the result we wanted. Always a pleasure sharing the court with Bobbi. Looking forward to this bronze match and getting my first doubles medal on the APP tour. It’s been a grind to get my doubles game to a level that allows me to compete with the best and I’m just grateful to be here. Always have to remind yourself that the journey is the destination. Let’s get this bronze!
That was a tough one. Felt like we were so close to victory, but it just slipped away at the end. Great match between all four of us though. Very high quality, electric points. Re-fueling now with some ceviche and going to watch some Blue Lock on Crunchy Roll. It’s an anime about soccer and learning how to utilize your strengths and weaknesses to win. Very on-brand.

Definitely not the result we wanted but I’m looking forward to battling for my first doubles APP medal tomorrow with Bobbi. Let’s go home with some hardware. Check in a bit later!

Good morning! Semi final Saturday! Feeling locked in after that successful escape room and a good nights sleep. Had my breakfast of champions and ordering my fire pistachio iced latte now!
I’m third match on CC so I’m going to make sure Bobbi and I are locked and loaded with a good warm up and with a good game plan heading into the match. A little chilly out here today compared to the rest of the week, but let’s see if it warms up by the time we play. See you out there!
Okay guys we escaped! Love doing these before a big game. It helps me mentally to stay sharp but also allows me to have fun and stay loose off the court. Finding that balance has been a challenge but one that has been paying off since implementing it. Grabbed some dinner to fuel up for tomorrow’s semifinal. Big fan of Italian food. I had some Caesar salad, mussels and penne à la vodka. Always my go tos. Looking forward to a great match against Sofi and Megan tomorrow. The points are always electric and I have such a great time playing against them. Should be a fun one! We’re third on center tomorrow make sure you grab a seat. I’m off to bed to get some rest. See you tomorrow Sac!

On our way to the escape room! If you didn’t know, I try to find the best escape rooms in each city we travel to for tournaments and we’ve made it a tradition at this point probably doing over 50 of them to date.
Also, wanted to go over some of my tattoos and the meanings behind them! On my left arm I have my favorite one with the lion surrounded by roses. To me, this signifies power and strength coming from the lion and elegance coming from the roses. Love the duality of the two characteristics together and that’s how I want to be known out on the court. On that same arm around my forearm is an angel wing with the saying, “Que Dios te bendiga y los angeles te cuiden,” which is a blessing that my grandmother constantly tells me when I’m leaving for my travels that translates to “May God bless you and the angels protect you.”
Moving on to my right arm are all little doodles and characters that I love. Starting off with the most important one, the Coke Zero can. I’m ADDICTED to Coke Zero, it’s actually a problem. Couldn’t not mark that on me.

You can also see a tattoo of stacked bricks there signifying the brick by brick approach I use in my everyday life and the formula that ultimately got me my first gold medal in singles after a long few months of grinding losses in the quarterfinals.
Last but not least, my favorite Disney movie is the Lion King and obviously I love Mufasa but I love Scar just as much so I got half of Mufasas face and half of Scars face.

Time to go escape! Will let yall know if we do! Be back soon!
Such a great match by Bobbi and I against Jill and Nat. Long, grueling rallies that needed a lot of patience and strategy which Bobbi and I love. Definitely getting steamy and hot out so I’m glad to finish my day a bit earlier today. Always tricky dealing with a loss early in the day and having to bounce back and be there for your partner in doubles. Gotta have a good short term memory when things don’t go your way to be able to continue improving and continue progressing throughout the other events in the tournament. Looking forward to semis tomorrow with Bobbi. Will go back and rest for a bit and possibly find an escape room to do tonite. Check back in with you all in a bit!

Tough match today in the quarterfinals against Seone. We battled it out in three and she just ended up playing better at the end. Once again there was a side of the court that had a clear advantage with the wind but that’s just something you need to know how to adjust to, especially when competing against good players. At the end of the day once you reach the quarterfinals it feels like that’s when the tournament really starts. Every is great at this level and it comes down to a few points here and there. Unfortunately I didn’t get the win but looking forward to getting back on the court with Bobbi for women’s doubles. Going to eat and hydrate before getting a good warmup in. Let’s get it!

Getting warmed up for my singles match and figured I’d talk you through my pre-game ritual specifically for singles. As you know, singles requires a lot of movement and change of direction so I’ve made sure to properly warm up those movements before I even start hitting a ball. I start with some dynamic stretching to loosen my muscles and then I go through a series of activation exercises with bands. Finally I do some speed and reaction-based drills to make sure my movements are crisp and my focus is sharp. Going to hit now for the next 30 minutes or so and head to Championship Court where I’m second on today. See you out there Sacramento!

Quarterfinals day today baby LETS GET IT! You know we had to start the day off with a champions breakfast. Just look how beautiful that plate is! We beat our video game last night in case anyone cared (we’re cool or whatever). I tend to be a creature of habit, so back to go get my pistachio latte at Haute Coffee and then head to the courts to warm up for singles! Feeling ready and excited! Vamos!

Wrapped up the day with some orange chicken, froyo and Split Fiction. One thing that I always try to focus on at tournaments is making sure that I am having fun on but especially off the court. Competition can be very intense and sometimes we forget that we play this sport because we love it and it’s fun. I think a lot of my success over the past year has come from finding the balance between working hard and having fun. With that being said, I’m going to slay some dragons now before bed and get ready to slay some more tomorrow on the court. Good night Sac, see you out there for day 2!

Man what a match! Some really incredible points and just overall play from the four of us. Unfortunately we didn’t come away with the win but I’m really proud of how I played. I played really well in that match and just overall today. I felt really good out there in all three events and I'm looking forward to the quarters tomorrow in singles and women’s doubles. Looking forward to getting back to the Airbnb to relax a bit for tomorrow. But first, food!

Thankfully, Ryler and I pulled off a tough three-set win. Considering we are a new partnership I think we had a pretty good understanding of whose ball was whose. I think in the beginning it was just getting used to what each other‘s preferences and mannerisms were. Playing with lefties allows us to have two forehands in the middle which is quite the advantage. I’m happy to have pulled through with a win. We’re on to the round of 16 now against Purple Jesus and Christine, which is a powerhouse team on tour. Going to give it our best effort to get the W and keep moving through the bracket.

Just got done with the round of 16 with Bobbi. We played against a great team, they played really well. Once again, I think that the wind played a significant role when it came to which side had the advantage. Playing that invitational yesterday allowed me to come out today and work on a few things that I felt like I needed to improve from yesterday. In general over the last few months I’ve really been trying to play a lot more aggressively and take more of the court from the left side. Although my singles game seems to be the event that stands out the most I’ve really been putting in a lot of work on my doubles game and I’m really proud of how it’s been paying off. Switching gears to mixed doubles now. I’m partnering with Ryler, which is a first time partnership. It’s going to be fun since he is a lefty which keeps me on the left side, my preferred side. I’m excited to get out there. He’s such a great presence on the court and I’m really looking forward to playing with him. Let’s get it!

Alright first match of singles is done. I think a big factor out here that we weren’t expecting is that it’s a little windier than what was projected or at least what it says on the weather app, so it’s definitely something that is affecting play. I played against a girl who’s on the APP Next team who I thought played really well - really good upcoming talent. I was just making sure to impose my game as early as possible with my aggression, coming up to the kitchen and playing as many points up at the net as I could. In addition to the wind, it is really sunny and bright out and for those of you wondering why I don’t wear sunglasses during singles… it’s because I mainly wear them in doubles to not get hit in the face and protect my eyes lol, Overall, I’m feeling really good. It’s gonna be a long day out here today so going to go fuel myself and hydrate before women’s doubles which is up next. I’m excited to get back out there with Bobbi. Talk soon!

Good morning Sacramento! Had a great night's sleep last night and cooked up a nice breakfast this morning to start the day off right. My go-to breakfast is two eggs, two pieces of bacon, and a slice of sourdough toast. Every time I’m at a tournament it is my mission to find the best coffee shop around, so I’m currently heading to Haute Coffee to have an iced pistachio latte with pistachio cold foam. Go and try it. Thank me later. See you on the court!

Just lost in the semis. Although they played really well I don’t think I played my best in that last game. Still proud of how Bobbi and I played all day. Love sharing the court with her and really looking forward to continuing to improve as a partnership this week. BobKat will be back. Now going to get some much needed food and unwind for the night. Maybe play some video games and keep it light to mentally shift focus for tomorrow. First up is women’s singles. I’ll see you tomorrow Sacramento!

Round robin just finished. We ended 3-2. We’re playing really well. Tough losses to two great teams. Tough conditions out here. It’s really hot and windy right now so we’re just grinding it out as best we can. Waiting on the standings for playoffs. Feeling good about our chances. Getting fueled and hydrated again while we wait to go on.
Not a lot of time in between matches to check in. Bobbi and I have played four rounds so far with a 3-1 record. Tough loss to Christine and Allison in round 3 - we lost 10-9 after being down 8-1. Kudos to them, they played great. Now we have Sofia and Megan on Championship Court for the last round of the round robin. We’re having a blast out here competing for such a great cause. Let’s keep it rolling!

First match was super solid! Bobbi and I were able to get it done with less than three minutes left so that always helps to clean it before dealing with the time. We only have five minutes in between matches so we gotta just stay locked in for the next one. It’s definitely a bit stressful to play under time because not only are you worried about your opponent but you’re worried about another outside factor but it’s just important to stay as focused as possible every point and not give anything up. On to the next!
Getting ready for the invitational to start. Super excited to get going. It’s pretty hot out here so just making sure that I’m fueling and hydrating properly beforehand. I’m excited to get out there with Bobbi and use this as extra reps before the actual tournament starts tomorrow. Bobbi and I are excited to keep building some momentum after a second place finish at the U.S. Open. We’re feeling really good after our warmup. We’re gonna have a great time out there. We have Shelby and Roos first round. Both incredible players so looking forward to a great match. Some new rules in place with this invitational should make for a fun experience as well. I’m off to center court. Will check back in later.
