The APP Tour returns to the state of New Jersey this week for its eleventh tournament of the season – the 2023 APP Sunmed New Jersey Open – held September 6-10 in Avalon, the heart of the Jersey Shore.

More than 450 players will participate in this year’s APP Sunmed New Jersey Open – the APP’s second year hosting the event in the Garden State. Amateurs of all ages, elite pros and the AARP Champions (50+) Division will participate in singles, doubles, and mixed doubles competition throughout the week.

Among the top pros participating are defending gold medalists Alix Truong and Vivian Glozman, along with APP Tour standouts Parris Todd, Simone Jardim, Hunter Johnson, Yates Johnson, Andrei Daescu, Salome Devidze, Susannah Barr, and Rob Nunnery.

APP Tour mainstays Shelby Bates, Ryler DeHeart, Megan Fudge, Lee Whitwell, and members of the APP Next Gen National Team – including New Jersey native Richard Livornese, Jr. – all return to action in Avalon.

Truong and Glozman stole the show at last week’s APP Chicago Open, winning their first gold medals as a duo in women’s pro doubles. The win marked Truong’s second gold of the year, and Glozman’s first. The pairing will team up in once again New Jersey.

When asked how they’ll keep the momentum going, Glozman responded, “Just good communication. Alix and I are traveling these three weeks together, so just maintaining a good on court/off court balance and bringing fire again. We’ll be on the water, and it’ll be pretty. More of the same, more pickle! Let’s go!”

Returning to action in Avalon will be Parris Todd, who leads all APP women’s pros with 18 total medals and 13 gold medals, and has two Triple Crowns in 2023, and Simone Jardim, whose 13 total medals are the third-most among APP women’s pros in 2023. Todd and Jardim earned women’s pro doubles gold in Philadelphia – their eighth title together, and the duo has their sights set on gold in New Jersey.

Also set to return from injury will be Hunter Johnson, who leads all APP men’s pros with 17 total medals in 2023, alongside his twin brother Yates Johnson, who’s 10 total medals are tied for the third-most among APP men’s pros this season. The Johnson twins have combined to win every men’s pro singles gold medal this season except for two.

Andrei Daescu earned silver in men’s pro doubles in Chicago alongside Rob Nunnery, and bronze in mixed pro doubles alongside Susannah Barr. Daescu’s 19 total medals lead all APP pros in 2023, and his 13 gold medals lead all APP men’s pros.  Barr’s six gold medals in 2023 are the third-most among APP women’s pros, while Nunnery’s 11 total medals are the third-most among APP men’s pros this season.

Salome Devidze won women’s pro singles gold in New Jersey in 2022 and is coming off of a women’s pro singles silver medal in Chicago - raising her 2023 medal count to seven.

Megan Fudge has 16 total medals in 2023 – one gold, 12 silvers, and three bronzes – and is set to pair up with her husband Ryler DeHeart in mixed pro doubles, sure to be one of the tournament’s most exciting pairings.

New Jersey native Richard Livornese, Jr. will take the courts seeking his first gold medal of the season. The APP Next Gen National team member has one silver and one bronze in 2023. Fellow Next Gen National Team member Spencer Lanier earned his second silver medal of the season in Chicago – in mixed pro doubles alongside Genie Erokhina.

Fans can stay posted on all the action by following the APP’s social media pages - @OfficialAPPTour on Instagram, X, TikTok, and Threads, and APP Tour on Facebook.
