Brooke and I finished our last match of the day in a tough loss, 15-13, to a really good team coming up from Florida. It's good to see Regina back on the courts. She had, I think, her second baby actually, with her husband Johnny, they're amazing people. Christa has improved so much, I was talking about her the day that we played singles. I think Brooke and I performed very well, we were actually up 13-11 and they found a way to come back around so congrats to them. I think they just finished playing for ninth place (they won).

Just to wrap up the day and the tournament, it's been a pleasure doing this. Thank you guys for following, it was my first time doing it and maybe not the last one, we'll see, if I don't get fired! I just had a long talk here with good friends and they said one of the things that we ask ourselves is to be perfect in a sport that is full of mistakes. That kind of got to me and I was like, okay, that's very true. So turning the focus to progress instead of perfection will be the main thing to take out of this tournament. That will be my wisdom to everybody! Thank you to my friends for telling me that, I will definitely carry it with me for the rest of the tournaments.

Stay tuned, the pro singles finals are going to be tomorrow and the mixed pro doubles final is tomorrow as well, so tune into ESPN2. There are great matches happening, there are great levels in this Sacramento tournament. It's amazing seeing so many people here watching tonight. Brooke y yo terminamos nuestro último partido del día con una dura derrota, 15-13, ante un equipo realmente bueno que venía de Florida. Es bueno ver a Regina nuevamente en las canchas. Creo que tuvo su segundo bebé, con su esposo Johnny, son personas increíbles. Christa ha mejorado tanto, había estado hablando de ella el día que jugamos individuales. Creo que Brooke y yo jugamos muy bien, estuvimos arriba 13-11 y ellos encontraron una manera de tomar ventaja, así que felicidades para ellos. Sólo para concluir el día y el torneo, quiero decir que ha sido un placer haber participado. Tuve una larga charla con buenos amigos, y comentamos que una de las cosas que nos exigimos a nosotros mismos en ser perfectos en un deporte que está lleno de errores. Eso me dejo reflexionando y pensé, está bien, eso es muy cierto. Así que es mejor enfocarse en el progreso, en lugar de la perfección, eso, es lo que me llevo de este torneo. ¡Esa será mi sabiduría para compartir! Gracias a mis amigos por compartir eso, definitivamente lo llevaré conmigo durante los torneos.

Brooke and I just finished our second match in the ninth place bracket. We won 15-11, I think we were down 11-6 and then we started coming back. It took us a little bit to adjust to the different game style which, in this match, was mostly drives, so it took us a little bit to adjust to that. Then they were speeding up on some balls that normally we're not used to. So at the beginning they caught us off guard. We were more ready when we switched sides. We just decided to keep our feet on the ground, punch the ball back and just be ready for them, and I think it worked out. So I'm looking forward to the next match. I didn't look at the bracket yet so I don't know who's next, but I'm looking forward to it.

Brooke y yo acabamos de terminar nuestro segundo partido en el noveno lugar. Ganamos 15-11, creo que estábamos perdiendo 11-6 pero logramos retomar el juego a nuestro favor. Nos tomó un poco de tiempo adaptarnos al estilo de juego, algo diferente, ya que tienes ser más rápido y estar preparado para recibir y dar. Just finished our first match in the back draw towards 9th place. We won 15-11 against a team that I think is new to pickleball, but I hope to see them pretty often here on tour. They are super fun people to play against. Brooke and I put it together, we knew it was going to happen at some point today, but we put it together. It's fun to see how when you do the right things at the right time, it's fun to see how it all works out, so I'm happy about that. It's a fun atmosphere here and that's the main thing. Sometimes, and I'm talking from personal experience in this case, sometimes we forget about that fun part. You just get focused on like 'okay, why is this not working out?' Or 'why am I missing that shot?' And I think that was happening a little bit yesterday and a litttle bit today. So leaving that aside and focusing on the atmosphere that we have hre in Sacramento today, it changes the way you go into a match. So I'm very happy about that change. I'm looking forward to the next match.

Acabamos de terminar nuestro primer partido, del set de juegos, hacia el noveno lugar. Ganamos 15-11 contra un equipo que creo que es nuevo en pickleball, el cual espero ver con frecuencia durante los partidos. Son personas muy divertidas contra quien jugar. Brooke y yo nos aplicamos, y el resultado fue increíble. Es divertido ver cómo cuando haces las cosas correctas en el momento correcto sale todo muy bien, así que estoy feliz por eso. Hay un buen ambiente aquí y eso es lo principal. A veces, y hablo de mi experiencia, nos olvidamos de divertirnos. Simplemente te concentras y piensas: 'Está bien, ¿por qué esto no funciona?' O '¿por qué fallo ese tiro?' Y creo que eso estaba sucediendo un poco ayer y un poco hoy en mi cabeza. Entonces, deje eso a un lado y mejor decidí pasarlo bien y enfocarme al buen ambiente que se genera durante los partidos aquí en Sacramento, esto cambia la forma en que entras a un partido. We just finished our round of 16 match - we lost against a solid team. We went ahead in the first part of the game and then they went on a good run, came back, beat us. Guys - don't forget about the timeouts. We actually did forget about them and took one a little bit too late! But they played really good and they had a really good win in the first round, so happy for them and wishing them good luck for the next round, which I think is quarterfinals. We're going to the ninth place bracket, so we'll fight our way there, one game to 15, so let's get it!

Acabamos de terminar nuestro partido de octavos de final y perdimos contra un equipo que es muy fuerte. Tomamos ventaja en la primera parte del partido y luego ellos hicieron una buena revancha, retomaron la ventaha y nos ganaron. Chicos, no se olviden de los “time outs”. ¡De hecho, nos olvidamos de ellos y tomamos uno un poco tarde! Good morning, everyone! Third day today, I'm excited to be here. I came a little bit early today to watch Brandon Lane, Glauka's husband. Glauka is my best friend here in the pickleball world. I'm looking forward to watching a few of the matches before we warm up. I'm playing today with Brooke Revuelta, a lefty who lives in Miami. She's 18 years old and is still in high school actually, but she has so much talent, so I'm looking forward to playing with her. I don't know how I'm going to be playing the role of being a mom today - definitely not good! Just kidding. I'm excited about it, it's a beautiful day here today so stay tuned!

Brandon and I just finished our last match of the day. We lost against Jack Munro and Kelsey Grambeau. Great team, you know that lefty - righty is very powerful. You never know what Jack is going to do, which is magic, you know? And Kelsey is super consistent on the left. They played way better than us today, so congrats and I hope they go all the way in the back draw. So to everybody who thinks pickleball is easy I will recommend them to play singles and then play the day after! No, just kidding. I'm looking forward to tomorrow. I'm going to rest today and then be ready for tomorrow with Brooke Revuelta. Thank you guys for following today!

Just finished the first round match for mixed against Shelby and Jack. Kudos to them, they knew how to turn it around in the first game. They got the momentum going in the second. I think we have now the back draw to ninth place, so we're just trying to get some more games in us, some more experience together and then trying to get some points. Good morning everyone, welcome to day two! I will lie if I say that I feel fresh. I woke up this morning ready to roll. I'm still happy about the performance yesterday. I'm about to do some physical therapy. I had coffee today - not one but two - so I think that will be even better for today. I'm excited to get into the main draw, we're playing at 10:00 a.m. against Shelby Bates and Jack Foster, that's a tough team, both of them are very dangerous, so looking forward to see what Brandon and I can do. Tune in to ESPN+ to watch all the great matches happening here today. It's a beautiful day in Sacramento so I'm looking forward to having a great day too!

Guys, it's 7:00 p.m. we're done with the day, it feels like it's 10:00, it's been a long day. We played, I don't know how many singles matches, but we played three mixed. It's fun to play with Brandon. We've been trying to get out of qualifiers for one tournament, we played together in Punta Gorda, so very happy that we got into the main draw. Playing with him is always fun, so thank you Glauka, his wife, for letting me play with him. I was thinking of maybe going somewhere for dinner, but I think I'm gonna go straight into a cold bath. And I'll probably just grab some dinner with Brandon and Tyler (his friend), and celebrate a little bit of the day today.

Recovery is huge, especially after singles day. Usually the next day your body feels it, especially your legs and your lower back, and also your shoulders a little bit. I usually do stretching, a little bit of mobility also, just to keep the blood flow going after a long day. Then a cold bath and stretching also a little bit before going to bed. Those three things are essential. Today we burned probably a few calories, so having good carbohydrates for dinner and good protein I think is also important. So diet and hydration. I hope this helps people who play singles or who don't want to play singles because of the recovery.

It was a fun day. I'm very happy about the performance today. On getting ready for tomorrow - It's my first mixed main draw in the APP so I'm very happy about it. Thank you everybody for tuning in and watching and supporting today.

Chicos, son las 7:00 p.m. Terminamos el día, se siente como si fueran las 10:00, ha sido un día largo. Jugamos varios partidos individuales y tres mixtos. Fue divertido jugar con Brandon. Hemos  tratado de no quedarnos solo en las eliminatorias, jugamos en Punta Gorda, y estamos muy felices de haber llegado a la final. Jugar con Brandon siempre es divertido, así que gracias a su esposa  Glauka, por permitirme jugar con él. Estaba pensando en ir a algún lugar a cenar, pero creo que iré directamente a darme una ducha de agua fría. Después probablemente iré a cenar con Brandon y Tyler (su amigo) y celebraré un poco el día de hoy.

La recuperación es importante, especialmente después de un día de torneo de individuales. Tu cuerpo lo resiente el siguiente día, sobre todo en las piernas y  la zona lumbar,  también un poco en los hombros. Normalmente, hago estiramientos y también un poco de movilidad, solamente para mantener el flujo sanguíneo en el cuerpo después de un largo día. Luego una ducha  de agua fría y termino con estiramientos un poco antes de acostarme. Esas tres cosas son esenciales para la recuperación. Hoy probablemente queme muchas calorías, por lo que creo que también es importante comer carbohidratos y proteína en la cena. Entonces dieta e hidratación. Espero que estos "tips" ayuden a la gente que juega este tipo de torneos, o a los que no por la recuperación requerida.

Fue un día divertido. Estoy muy satisfecha con mi desempeñó de hoy. Estoy preparada para mañana, es mi primer cuadro principal mixto en la APP, así que estoy muy feliz por ello. Gracias a todos por estar conectados, ver y apoyar hoy.

Just finished playing the bronze medal match against Alix Truong, another three-setter. Congrats to Alix for a great tournament. I know she has a love-hate relationship with singles, so whenever we play it's probably going to be a laugh, but it's true. She has such a fighting spirit in her that you can never think that she is done playing because she always has an ace up her sleeve. I think that's how you say it in English. I'm very happy for this bronze! In between the loss with Jorja and this match, we played the first round of the mixed pro qualifiers, and we won, so now it's time to turn it on for mixed again. We are going for the second round and have hopefully two more matches to make it to the main draw. Big shout out to everybody who stayed here, watching the match and also to the people watching from Spain and Louisiana and other parts here in the United States. Acabo de terminar de jugar el partido por la medalla de bronce contra Alix Truong, partido de tres sets. Felicidades a Alix por un gran torneo. Sé que ella tiene una relación de amor-odio por los partidos individuales, así que siempre que juguemos habrá risas y diversión. Just finished the match against Jorja, 15-13 down in the third. That was a tough one, I think it was a battle. Amazing playing by Jorja, I think at the beginning she started a little bit erratic, and that gave me the advantage in the first game. Crazy point in the second game and I think she got the momentum going from there, and just really good playing. We got to 13-13 in the third game, my serve and a good point right there, then she closed it out. I think her game plan was pretty good. I couldn't adjust in the end so kudos to her. It's great to see her back on the APP Tour competing, congrats to her for the Championship Sunday, and wishing her the best of luck for the next one.

That first match that I had, it was against Mari, then I had that tough quarters against Christa where we went to three, a tough semis against Jorja going to three. I think now I'm going to have a little bit of time in between this match and the next one just because they haven't played the other match yet, so I think that will give me a little time to regroup. I don't think I played bad, so whenever you feel like you play good and the opponent just played great, there's nothing much you can do. I'm definitely going to go back and see a few points that I made mistakes on, and try to not make those for the bronze medal match. A long day today, we have the mixed qualifiers. Today we need three matches to make it to the main draw, so I have a maximum four matches more today. So yeah, it's a long day and just trying to hydrate well now, eat a little bit and then go for the next one.

Acabo de terminar el partido contra Jorja, 15-13 abajo en el tercero. Fue una batalla, fue difícil. Increíble juego de parte de Jorja. Al principio empezó un poco errática, y eso me dio la ventaja en el primer juego. Tuvo un punto loco en el segundo juego y tomó el impulso a partir de ahí y jugó realmente bien. Llegamos a 13-13 en el tercer juego, mi saque y un buen punto ahí mismo, luego ella cerró el marcador. Creo que su plan de juego fue bastante bueno. Al final no pude adaptarme, así que la felicito. Es genial verla de regreso en el APP Tour compitiendo, felicidades para ella por el Campeonato del domingo y deseándole la mejor de las suertes para el próximo.

El primer partido que tuve fue contra Mari, luego tuve esos cuartos difíciles contra Christa donde terminamos en tres, unas semifinales difíciles contra Jorja que terminaron en tres. Creo que ahora voy a tener un poco de tiempo entre este partido y el siguiente solamente porque todavía no han jugado el otro partido, así que creo que eso me dará un poco de tiempo para reagruparme. No creo que haya jugado mal, así que cuando sientes que juegas bien y el oponente simplemente jugó genial, no hay mucho que puedas hacer. Definitivamente, revisaré y veo algunos puntos en los que cometí errores, y trataré de no cometerlos para el partido por la medalla de bronce. Hoy es un día largo, tenemos las eliminatorias mixtas. I just finished my quarterfinals match against Christa Gecheva. She played amazing. The first game I couldn't find a way, she was hitting the ball so clean, putting so much pressure on me. She played lights out and then the second game I started finding a way to get into the game. I think I had the wind with me and that made a little bit of a difference in the second game. Her shots were so deep and opening the court so well and if I would give her the angle she would pass me up right away. So she played super smart. The third game was nuts, I think we went all the way to 10-10, we were not giving more than two points at a time. Then, just a couple points, that gave me the advantage, 12-10, and the way she played today, for me, she's one of the toughest opponents on the APP for sure in singles. Kudos to her because she's worked so hard in the last few months so I'm really happy for her to have the level she has right now. I hope to see her competing in singles more often. She is a great person on and off the court, another one of my good friends. I remember last year we were here and on Sunday all of them were at a coffee shop and there was kind of like a surprise for my gold medal and she was one of them. So we've had a really great friendship since last year and I wish her the best in the next tournament and hope to see her there. Next match is going to be tough!

Acabo de terminar mi partido de cuartos de final contra Christa Gecheva. ¡Ella jugó increíble! En el primer partido se me complico encontrar la forma, ya que ella golpeaba la pelota con precisión, y esto me presionaba mucho. Ella compitió sin ninguna dificultad, afortunadamente en el segundo partido pude encontrar la forma; creo que tuvo que ver que el viento estuvo a mi favor y eso hizo la diferencia. Sus tiros fueron tan profundos y cubrían la cancha tan bien, que si se lo permitía me pasaba en un instante. Por lo que logró un juego inteligente. El tercer partido fue una locura, creo que llegamos hasta el 10-10, no sobrepasábamos los dos puntos. Después solo un par de puntos me dieron ventaja, 12-10. Por la forma en que jugó hoy, pienso que es una de las oponentes más fuertes del APP en individuales. Felicidades a ella porque ha trabajado muy duro en los últimos meses, así que estoy muy feliz de que tenga el nivel que tiene ahora. Espero verla competir en individuales más seguido. Es una gran persona dentro y fuera de la cancha, otra de mis buenas amigas. Recuerdo el año pasado que estuvimos aquí, era un domingo, estábamos en una café y hubo una sorpresa por mi medalla de oro, ella estuvo presente. Hemos tenido una gran amistad desde el año pasado y le deseo lo mejor en el próximo torneo y espero verla allí. ¡El próximo partido será difícil!

I just finished playing my first match against Mari Humberg, a really good friend of mine, she's super fun off the court. She's probably one of the only ones who makes me laugh on the court so sometimes it's funny when you're competing against each other. She made like two mistakes that barely touched the tape and she just looks at me and starts laughing and I start laughing right away and we're in the middle of the match! It's super fun competing against a good friend, you obviously want her to do well, she wants me to do well. I think competing against each other brings our levels up because we try to do better than what we think we can play. We know each other so well that I think it takes us to the next level as well. Kudos to her - she had a great win in the first round. That was a tough battle out there and I hope she starts practicing singles because she never practices and she plays that well, so somebody explain that to me! But yeah, it's always good to play against great people.

Acabo de terminar de jugar mi primer partido contra Mari Humberg, una muy buena amiga mía, es superdivertida fuera de la cancha. Probablemente, es una de las únicas que me hace reír en la cancha, así que a veces es divertido cuando competimos en un partido. Ella cometió dos errores durante nuestro partido, que apenas tocaron la cinta. Ella me ve y comienza a reírse y empiezo a reírme de inmediato. ¡Estamos en medio del partido! Es muy divertido competir contra una buena amiga, obviamente quieres que a ella le vaya bien y ella a mí. Competir entre nosotros aumenta nuestros niveles, intentamos hacerlo mejor. Nos conocemos tan bien que creo que eso también nos lleva al siguiente nivel. ¡Felicidades a Mari!, obtuvo una gran victoria en la primera ronda. Fue una batalla dura y espero que Mari empiece a practicar individuales, porque nunca practica y juega muy bien. ¡Que alguien me lo explique! Pero sí, siempre es bueno jugar contra grandes personas.

Hi everyone, this is Judit Castillo and we're here in Sacramento. I got in on Tuesday night from Shreveport, Louisiana, which I consider my home. Yesterday we had a good day of practice here in Sacramento - there was a group of us, Megan Fudge, Ryler DeHeart, Alix Truong, Will Howells, Brandon Lane, Brooke Revuelta, Michael Lloyd, Shelby Bates. We got a little bit of the feeling of Sacramento and spent time together. We had a good dinner, all of us, I will post that picture so you guys can see it. This morning I just followed my usual routine before coming to the tournament, which usually is stretching, cold shower, hot shower, good breakfast, coffee - that's mandatory - and then just drove to the venue. Today is Thursday, it's singles day, my favorite day of the week. I love singles and playing out here, it's a different format, but we had a feeling of that in Punta Gorda with the rally scoring to 15, two out of three, single elimination. Starting with a bye, that might be tough sometimes because you don't have that rhythm coming from a previous match. But planning on having fun out there. That's the goal for me this year to be on the court and be able to have fun and enjoy what I'm doing. That will be the goal today and let's see what happens. There's a lot of competition here, so looking forward to a good day!

Hola a todos, soy Judit Castillo y estamos aquí en Sacramento, California. Llegué el martes por la noche desde Shreveport, Luisiana, lugar que considero mi hogar. Ayer tuvimos un buen día de práctica aquí en Sacramento – en nuestro grupo éramos: Megan Fudge, Ryler DeHeart, Alix Truong, Will Howells, Brandon Lane, Brooke Revuelta, Michael Lloyd, Shelby Bates. Pasamos tiempo juntos, disfrutamos un poco de la ciudad de Sacramento y tuvimos la oportunidad de cenar, compartiré una foto de nuestra cena para que puedan verla. Esta mañana empecé con mi rutina habitual antes de venir al torneo, que normalmente consiste en estiramientos, una ducha de agua fría y luego un baño caliente, después un buen desayuno, café (muy necesario), y luego conduje hasta el lugar de los torneos. Hoy es jueves, día de partidos individuales, mi día favorito de la semana. Me encantan los partidos individuales y jugarlos aquí en Sacramento, ya que es un formato diferente, casi la misma sensación que cuando jugamos en Punta Gorda, el cual consiste en un partido de 15 puntos, dos de tres, eliminación individual. Comenzar el partido con un “BYE”, a veces puede ser difícil porque no tienes la misma condición de haber jugado un partido anterior, pero de todos modos te diviertes. Ese es el objetivo para mí este año, estar en la cancha y divertirme haciendo lo que me gusta. Este será el objetivo el día de hoy y veamos qué pasa. ¡Hay mucha competencia aquí, así que esperamos se un buen día!
